Life

At 10:46 a.m. on August 7, 2014, Alice Katherine Stoppenhagen was born. Two weeks earlier than expected, she was 7 pounds, 3 ounces, and 21 inches long.

And yes, I have a picture. It’s one of my favorites of the 1,873,297 pictures that have already been taken of her to date.

Alice

She took a breath, and her life begins. Every second of every day, around the globe, babies are born. Stretching my brain that far hurts.

I think of how odd this will be to have her entire life documented electronically. Everywhere. What will she think 15 or 25 years from now if she reads this? Stretching my brain that far hurts too.

Life is weird. (Not you, Alice, you’re great…Grandma is just rambling.) This whole new title / role thing of grand-parenthood hurts my brain too. What the hell is that about?

And, I really have to stop cussing now. Our adult children may or may not have learned their profanity from us. Yes, she’s gonna hear it, but I prefer Alice not import it from me…tacky.

Babies are intoxicating. We just stare at them. Why are they so fascinating? I don’t have answers, to this or any of it.

Just rest. Accept it. Live life.
